L - Slugs don' t generally bother these
J - Slugs enjoy these
NO face - slug damage may depend upon your particular area or slug populations in your particular garden. Hostas and slugs seem to go hand in hand. But not necessarily. Read cultural care for details.

Aureo marginata (Large) L Sometimes called Gold Crown or Green Gold and there are other cultivars with similar coloring. This hosta is always attractive, deep green leaves with a sharp gold border. Nice lavender flowers.

Blue Angel (X-Large) L Large, somewhat pointed leaves, heavily textured and smoky blue color. Forms a giant specimen, up to 3' high and wide or larger. Pale, near white flowers.

Blue Cadet (Medium) L Thick texture, rounded blue green (somewhat gray tinged) leaves. Makes a nice rounded clump that stay attractive. Lavender flowers.

Decorata (Medium) J Blunt, almost rounded green leaves with vivid white border. Nice low growing variety, good for use as a groundcover due to it's low growth habit. Dark violet flowers.

Francee (Large) L Dark, emerald green leaves with thin, bright white edging. Nice mounding habit, very tidy. Lavender flowers.

Frances Williams (Large) L Rounded, blue green leaves with wide golden borders. Heavily textured, slightly cupped leaves. Bright color all season. Flowers pale lilac.

Ginko Craig (Small) Narrow, deep green leaves with thin white edging. Fast grower, good for the front of the border and edges. Deep lavender flowers.

hosta_gold_standard.JPG (13341 bytes)

Gold Standard (Medium) An old standard, very popular and attractive. Bright golden leaves have dark green margins. Colors stay best with more shade, gold will lighted to almost parchment color if given too much sun. Some people like this lightening effect, personally I prefer the contrast of the deeper chartreuse and green on the leaves. Flowers pale lilac.

Halcyon (Medium) L One of the bluest in color. Almost silver and very striking. Leaves sit in an almost flat whorl-like fashion. Flowers are pale lilac.

Medio picta (Small) J White foliage with dark green edging, undulating, lance shaped foliage. Plant as a whole appears more white than green. Good foreground plant. Lilac flowers.

Montana aurea marginata (X-Large) L Magnificent, upright, arching growth habit. Showy dark green and bright gold leaves are slightly veined and distinctly pointed. Pale lilac flowers, rise only slightly above the foliage. Early riser, sometimes damaged by early frosts.

Nigrescens (Large) L Beautiful gray/blue foliage, somewhat glossy, smooth texture. Upright vase-shaped habit, slightly cupped leaves. Pale lilac, near white flowers.

Plantagenia (Large) J The 'Old August Lily'. Large, light green leaves, somewhat glossy. This is a must have for the garden - 4" long, pure white, trumpet-shaped flowers, extremely fragrant. Blooms in August.

Sagae fluctuans or fluctuans 'Variegata' (Large) L Beautiful wavy leaves, soft, chalky green foliage with cream to soft gold edges. Vase shaped form makes an attractive specimen. Pale lilac flowers.

Sieboldiana elegans (X-Large) L Large, heavily puckered , rounded leaves. Nice blue gray color and mounded form. Flowers pale lilac-near white and rise only slightly above foliage tops. In its younger stages of growth the rounded, heavily puckered foliage may not be as evident as when the plant has matured a few years. There could be some variances in form for this hosta as it is sometimes grown from seed. Hosta 'sieboldiana' has leaves that are not quite as rounded and are slightly pointed.

Valentine Lace (Medium) L Soft blue/gray tint to the foliage, lightly ribbed foliage has attractive rippled leaf edges. Flowers are pale lilac and compliment to blue tones of the foliage. Nice rounded growth form.

More Hostas on their way to the gallery.....soon.
